DRAGON-CHILD
Dragon-children are always more formidable than others of their kind that do not have dragon blood, and unlike the half-dragons their appearance is only slightly different to other members of their race – a shine to the skin and/or the eyes usually.
CREATING A DRAGON-CHILD
“Dragon-child” is an inherited template that can be added to any living, corporeal creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).
A dragon-child uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.
Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to dragon. Size is unchanged. Do not recalculate base attack bonus or saves.
Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +1.
Special Qualities: A dragon-child has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus darkvision out to 60 feet and low-light vision. A dragon-child has immunity to sleep and paralysis effects, and an additional resistance based on its dragon variety.
Dragon Variety / Resistance (HDx2)
Black, Copper, Green / Acid
Blue, Bronze / Electricity
Brass, Gold, Red / Fire
Silver, White / Cold
The resistance is double the hit dice of the dragon child. At 20 HD it becomes Immunity to the associated element.
Dragon Form (Su): Once per day, a dragon child can shift into dragon form as though using the polymorph spell on itself, though its gear melds with its dragon form and becomes nonfunctional, it does not regain hit points for changing form, and only the specific dragon form indicated by the dragon variety can be assumed (see below). It assumes the ability scores of the dragon and all its natural attacks, but not the spells or other supernatural abilities of the dragon.
Changing to or from dragon form is a standard action.
A slain dragon child reverts to its unaltered form, although it remains dead. Separated body parts retain their dragon form, however.
A dragon child must have at least 10 hit dice to be able to activate this ability. If the dragon child has 10-15 HD it can assume the form of a medium sized dragon, if the dragon child has 16-20 HD it can assume the form of a large dragon, if the dragon child has 21-25 HD it can assume the form of a huge dragon, if the dragon child has 26-30 HD it can assume the form of a gargantuan dragon and if the dragon child has 31 or more HD it can assume the form of a colossal dragon. The chosen dragon form may not have more HD than the dragon child.
Abilities: Increase from the base creature as follows: Str +4, Con +2, Wis +2, Cha +2.
Skills: A dragon-child gains skill points as a dragon and has skill points equal to (6 + Int modifier) x(HD + 3). Do not include Hit Dice from class levels in this calculation—the dragon-child gains dragon skill points only for its racial Hit Dice, and gains the normal amount of skill points for its class levels. Treat skills from the base creature’s list as class skills, and other skills as cross-class.
Environment: Same as either the base creature or the dragon variety.
Challenge Rating: Same as the base creature + 1 (minimum 2).
Alignment: Same as the dragon variety (any).
Level Adjustment: Same as base creature +2.
