SCHOLAR OF SCRIPTURE
Don’t underestimate the power of the written word.
Scholars of scripture are generally smart individuals with an open mind and an eagerness to learn. Although most had had the potential to become competent wizards, a scholar of scripture never studied magic, be it from a lack of ambition, money, time, or occasion.
Most, however, turned to a profession, where they could put their smarts to good use, typically as scribes, but also as explorers, artists, librarians, salesmen, or even mere craftsmen. Some also found their place in illicit business, as forgers of documents, lockpickers, or con men.
Generally, any mundane profession, which grants a character an opportunity to read a lot, educate himself and finally gain an understanding for magical writings might shape a later scholar of scripture.

Languages: Must be able to read, write and speak at least five different languages (native language included).
Class skills
The scholar of scripture’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Forgery (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (all skills, taken individually) (Int), Profession (Wis), Speak Language (Int), Spellcraft (Int), Spellcraft (Int), and Use Magic Device (Cha).
Skill points at each level: 6 + Int modifier
Class Features
All of the following are class features of the scholar of scripture prestige class
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Scholars of scriptures gain no additional proficiency in any weapon or armor.
Bookworm: Due to his extensive book knowledge, a scholar of scripture has learned tidbits of almost any area of knowledge. Thus, he may use all Knowledge skills untrained.
Speed Reading: A scholar of scripture can read fast. Very fast. To read about one page of text effectively, he needs only one full round. This applies also to deciphering texts with the Decipher Script skill.
Copy Scroll: His expertise in studying and copying texts enables the scholar of scripture to multiply even magical scripture. In most regards, this works like the Scribe Scroll feat, with the exception that the scholar of scripture can only copy spells from scrolls with a maximum level given in the table below, and that he requires the spell either on a magical scroll or in a spellbook instead of having prepared or being able to cast the spell, and that the scripture the spell is copied from is not used up, but is still there and fully usable.
Additionally, if he succeeds in a Spellcraft check after creating the copy (DC 25 + spell level) the scholar of scriptures saves half the scroll’s XP cost (round down).
Scroll Mastery: Speed reading and familiarity with scrolls grant a scholar of scripture great security when using magical scripture. When using a scroll, he may take 10 on his Use Magic Device check, even if threatened or distracted.
This means, if the DC is low enough, the scholar of scripture may forfeit the skill check altogether.
Regarding scrolls, the scholar of scripture may even take 20, following the standard rules for taking 20.
Apostille: The scholar of scripture’s understanding for magical writings now has become intimate enough, that he may dare to variegate scrolls upon copying, adding metamagic modifications to the spells in question. For this purpose, the scholar of scripture must have learned the metamagic feat he wants to apply to the scroll. Of course, since the metamagic raises a spell’s effective level, the scholar of scripture cannot apply an apostille if that would increase the spell’s level above the maximum level he can copy.
Bonus Feat: A scholar of scripture may choose his bonus feat from the list of bonus feats available for wizards. He may even choose item creation feats, substituting his scholar of scripture level for caster level to fulfill the feat’s prerequisites. To actually create magic items, he has to rely on available scrolls with regard to fulfilling spell and caster level requirements.
Commentary: Now, the scholar of scripture has understood how pronunciation as well as added syllables and words can influence the effect of a spell while it is read out. He can now apply metamagical modifications to spells read from scrolls spontaneously. However, he cannot increase the effective level of a spell above the maximum level of his Copy Scroll ability, and the level increase of the metamagic applied is added to the Use Magic Device DC of the scroll.
Impartial Reader: Finally, the scholar of scripture’s familiarity with magical writings has become so deep that he can read even magical writings which trigger a spell effect upon reading, like symbol spells (if that triggering method is selected), sepia snake sigil, illusory script or explosive runes, without evoking the effect. To recognize the spell the scholar of scripture still requires a successful Spellcraft check.
This ability does not reveal a secret page.
EX-SCHOLARS OF SCRIPTURE
A scholar of scripture of third level or lower who gains a level in a class, that immediately allows him to cast spells on his own, cannot raise further in the scholar of scripture prestige class and loses all class abilities thereof. “Immediately” means, for example, that a scholar of scripture could have three levels of ranger without losing access to the prestige class. But with the forth level of ranger, provided he has a high enough Wisdom score to gain ranger spells, he would now qualify as spellcaster with regard to the prestige classes restrictions.
However, with the fourth level of the scholar of scripture prestige class, the character has gained such a deep understanding of magic, that it would not be reasonable to assume that actually learning magic still interfered with the prestige classes abilities.
